In this part of the section Odysseus comes to his palace and dressed as a beggar asks for a chance to shoot the bow. He is then accepted to try and shoot the bow that everyone before had failed to even string. Thinking that he will never do it they say "May his fortune grow and inch for every inch he bends it!" He then proceeds to check his old bow for any imperfections. All of the suitors start to laugh at him saying that he isn't going to shoot it and that he just wanted to figure out the design of the bow so he could recreate it. Then when he is assured that his bow is in good condition he strings it and makes the shot through the axe heads. The suitors are left speechless.
